Sizzling Summer Plus-Size Fashions!

by @ 6:25 pm. Filed under Fashion

Memorial Day is over - I hope all you ladies out there had a great time with your friends and family. You know, plus-size fashion is something that I think about year-round. All across the nation, temperatures are rising, and we’re supposed to be shedding layers. If you’re like me though, you’re still wearing some of your winter favorites, and trying to figure out that elusive transition from winter to summer. Today I have some links to some lovely plus-size clothes that are sure to bring some sizzle to your wardrobe:

From Overstock.com

Overstock.com has a lot of great finds for clothing. Prices range greatly, but no matter what the price, Overstock delivers high quality at a fraction of the price one would pay from another retailer.

This lovely piece from R&K Originals is an absolute steal at $51.99! A two piece set for about $25 each, marked down 35%? Sounds too good to be true, but it’s not! Great for summer functions that require a little more glamour than the usual, without looking too overdressed. The suit comes with features that tend to ignore but can’t live without: two hand pockets, a fully lined skirt, shoulder pads, and an elastic waist.

At the time of this guide, the suit is selling at a size 24. If you’re 1-2 sizes below, you might still be interested in this suit - the extra material may not be as close of a fit, but if maximum comfort is more of a priority, then you may want to go a size or two above what you normally wear.

If you’re looking for something far more casual, try this lovely set:

At $34.99, this is a great bargain! Capris are a summer staple that just begs to be apart of your wardrobe! Sizes available are 14, 18, and 20. I really like this color, but if you’re not as much of a fan of the teal set as I am, the pink looks just as beautiful:

Whatever you choose, Overstock can provide what you’re looking for! In the next few days, we’ll be featuring other plus-size friendly merchants to start your summer off right, so stay tuned!

Get a Bra that Fits!

by @ 8:26 am. Filed under Fashion, Women's Health, Tips & Tricks

Memorial Day is a time of remembrance, and a time of togetherness. Today, most people in the United States are getting together to have barbecues, picnics, and just general cookout fun! However ladies, you must start this busy day off right: by selecting the right bra.

Sizing Your Bra Properly

Good bras take a little bit of effort from the user - you have to be properly sized and fitted for the bras you buy, otherwise they will not fit properly. A good bra will do more than just lift the breasts: a good bra will also provide the right support you need to get on with your day! The cooking, socializing, shopping, and everything else in our busy schedules these days demands that we take this little step in taking care of ourselves.

All in a Day’s Measurements

The secret to a well-fitting bra is all in the measurements. There are two measurements that must be done: a chest measurement and a cup measurement. To size yourself for both measurements, get a measuring tape and a mirror.

For a chest measurement, run the measuring tape right under your breasts, all the way around your back and rib cage. Once you have the measuring tape in place properly, note your measurement and add five inches. If your measurement comes out odd, round up to the next even number.

For a cup measurement, run the measuring tape along the fullest part of your breasts. You will want to wear a comfortable bra for this one, while avoiding sports bras and padded bras. Once you take the measurement, write it down.

What Do My Numbers Mean?

The chest measurement is your band size. Band size is a major part of a well-fitting bra. Wearing a bra with an extra small band puts strain on your chest, and leads to back and muscle problems.

The cup size is derived from the chest measurement minus the cup measurement. The difference in these numbers is where the cup size comes in. Below is a breakdown of what each number corresponds to:

Difference of… Corresponds to…
1 A
2 B
3 C
4 D
5 DD (also an E)
6 DDD (also known as F)
7 G
8 H

The Road From Here

There’s a lot of options in bras, and plus-sized ladies need not feel left out anymore. Bare Necessities offers plus sized bras — from sizes 36C to 54H. With over 200 styles, there’s definately something here for everyone!

Hello Hello!

by @ 9:15 pm. Filed under Fashion, General

Just wanted to introduce myself, I’m Nic. I posted a couple of replies earlier to Maris’s first post. I want to say that there are so many opportunities for women out there, opportunities worth seeking. We aim to please, here at DeluxeGrrl, and we hope we can be of service to other women out there who are much like ourselves. I want to start with a couple of suggestions of places where women who are big, bold and beautiful can shop. These stores not only are in many local malls (in larger cities) but they also offer a great selection in their online venues as well as catelogues.

Fashionable clothing for women greater than a size 14 can be found in many places, you just need to know the right places to look. You can find a great selection on sites such as Bare Necessities, JustMySize, and OverStock.

I’d like to share some of the places I like to shop. Not only can you find amazing clothing, but they’re in style, cut to fit different shapes and sizes, and they have a very appealing selection to choose from. I absolutely *love* Lane Bryant’s, Catherine’s, and The Avenue (in addition to my previously mentioned Frederick’s of Hollywood.) There are other stores that offer a wide selection of clothing for larger women, such as Roman’s, I get their catelogue delivered to my house.

These stores not only cater to real women, they offer a varied selection for women of all ages, including teens. It doesnt matter if you’re tall or not, they provide a place for real women to shop for apparel, whether its business or casual, from poolwear to winterwear. I commend these businesses for appreciating women for who they are, not what society thinks they should look like.

The Beginning

It’s 2006, women are in the workplace, and things are looking up. Not as up as it could be, but ladies, we’re opening doors every day! Today, women have more choices than their mothers in answering one basic, yet classic question: what do I want to buy?

The Road To Satisfaction

In my experience, shopping for women is both a personal and practical decision: we want to buy things that make us good and feel as good as possible. We want to have nice things for our homes and families. We want clothes that fit, electronics that work, and customer service that fills our needs. That doesn’t sound so bad, does it?

Not At All!

Most will agree that these wants aren’t bad. However, there is a group among women who aren’t getting their wants and needs fulfilled as easily: plus-sized women. And why not? These women are just as beautiful! Besides, what is “plus-sized” but a designation. It’s not a condemning label, unless we collectively deem it so.

An Answer for Plus-Sized Ladies

I’ve created this blog as an information hub for plus-sized women looking for shopping havens on the web, both just for them, and sites that realize plus-sized women are out there.

What You’ll See Here

This isn’t just a link dump: I will be analyzing sites as I find them, and providing links for you to check out for yourself! On top of the links to sites I’ve partnered with, I will also be provided information for women about books, movies, music, clothing, makeup, hair, nails, health, computers and electronics, cooking, relationships, and much more!

A Site For All Women

Ladies who aren’t plus-sized are still welcome! I believe that all women will benefit from the information I have to offer, but I did want to bring plus-sized women to the table first. However, as women, we all must stick together and retain unity. Empowerment is the key here, not division.

What Are You Waiting For?

It’s a new site to keep the year going strong! Join me as we step through day by day, week by week, month by month, year by year, and most importantly, sale by sale!
