I have a few personal ad listings in various places — all of which mention my status as a Full Figured Female. I had a reply that actually asked me if it matter about race/age/ethnicity, and why anyone would post such things.
It doesn’t matter to me personally, but after a few coffee-dates that were a little shocking (where you could tell they were surprised to be meeting a BBW), I decided to weed out the knuckleheads and time-wasters.
What’s your take?

I think that if it is a generic dating site that including a picture in your profile will tell the prospective man or woman what they need to know.
If it is a size friendly site then its a given that everybody is going to be big so there is no real need to say I am a bbw becuase everybody is a bbw or bhm.

[…] I was just reading over at Deluxe Grrl about her conflict of including the term “BBW” or not in a personal ad. Personally I think that it all depends on the type of dating service as to the terminology that should be used in a personal ad. If dealing with a generic dating site like Yahoo Personals then I would think including as much information about yourself would be a good thing. […]

I have profiles on both eharmony.com and BBWHarmony.com. On eharmony, I’ve been matched with a few guys, but none of them are interested in getting to know a BBW (note: I have a picture of my on my profile and mention that I am a BBW in my profile).
On the flip side, I have a profile on BBWHarmony.com, but have only been approached by a few guys looking just for a hook-up and not a relationship. So my experience so far is “damned if you do, damned if you don’t”.
Just my take.

I think it’s best to mention that you’re a BBW, so that there aren’t any surprises. Men can be so shallow and I hate that about them. But, the reality is, as you said, that you need to weed out the ones who don’t understand that real beauty isn’t just on the outside. The ironic thing is that a lot of men don’t seem to notice their own flaws. They can be sloppy with a big gut hanging over their belts and yet they want a woman who looks like Halle Berry or Angelina Jolie.
What’s up with that???

I also think it’s best to mention it, unless it is a BBW specific dating site where all the ladies usually are of larger sizes and the men who register are large as well or like the larger woman.
I agree with you deluxegrrl, best to let everyone know upfront.. I in return would also like to know what the respective other looks like before meeting up.

I have a bit of a problem with following rules, so I’m not going to tell you what you should or should not do, but I will tell you what I think.
To start, I love BBW’s, and not everyone does.
This matters. In my opinion, the real advantage to using the internet for dating, it to qualify prospects. There are 6.5 billion people on this planet, and about half are men, about half are women. Either way, it works out to be about 3.15 BILLION prospective partners.
If nothing else, with global communciation, this means that there are about 3.5 billion people who will want to have sex with you.
The internet makes this simple. It;s easy to say, this is what I want, and this is what I don’t want.
I think that the greatest advantage to dating on the internet is having the ability to qualify potential partners/lovers in advance. It is easy to day “this is what I want, and this is what I don’t want.” The internet makes it easy to say this to thousands, or even millions of potential partners.

BBW isn’t outwardly beautiful to some. The media: dont make me laugh. Society: needs to look in the mirror especially here in the US. There are unattractive people in all sizes. Beauty is relative be up front and honest about you qualities and characteristics. Isn’t that also what you would want in return?
