I gotta tell you ladies — I was on a roll with the whole makeup thing. However, I ran into a minor snag - my face and I don’t communicate. I love my face - we can express so much through our facial expressions!
Sadly, my face doesn’t really like my makeup, or my skincare regimen right now. I went into the bathroom this morning to get my face prepped and ready to go - only to find irritation and roughness waiting for me. It wasn’t a great start to the morning at all!
What works one day may not always work all the time — something that I wanted to share with all you luxuriously deluxe ladies out there! It sounds like a no-brainer, but makeup and skincare are so intertwined. I can’t expect to have a great makeup session if my skin is dry, rough, and scaly. The area around my chin and the sides of my mouth are a little dark and more than a little rough — the former is due to a medicinal reaction, the latter is due to lack of moisture.
Sometimes we have to get away from all the different products we put on our face (including makeup) in order to give our skin time to heal. I’m slowly working back to my facial cleanser, then comes my astringent, and then my exfoliant. I’m still going to use lotion, but I’m going to search for a sensitive skin formula that I think will be a lot gentler on my face.
Product vacations don’t have to be long — just give yourself enough time to heal up before you jump to the next product. I’m going to be giving up my Apricot Scrub, and possibly switching to something else.
For the mean time, stay tuned in to what your face is really saying - and act on it!

OK, so I can’t hide my excitement. I was going to stay mum on this giveaway until the end of the month, but I love you all far too much for that! Right now though, I must fill in a few words before we actually get to the ‘giveaway’ part.
We all want our skin to healthier, shinier, and just in overall better condition. I know I do - walking from class to class, meeting clients, and just being luxuriously deluxe can take a lot out of a gal! That’s why I’ve focused on skincare so much lately - it’s important to take good care of our skin, especially when we’re going to put makeup on top of it.
Our faces are the canvas for that makeup, and it’s my goal to make sure your face is in tip-top condition! That’s why I’m letting you in on a secret that even queens of ancient times knew about: dead sea cosmetics.
The Dead Sea may be devoid of “life”, but it is rich in minerals! These minerals include potassium, bromide, iodine, magnesium, magnesium carbonate, and zinc oxide. The list goes on, but these are minerals that give people great results when it comes to skincase.
Remember your mother constantly reminding you to exfoliate? Well, you can keep mom happy and get better results by using black mud from the Dead Sea, which also improves blood circulation. Why not kick up the regeneration process of your skin with Dead Sea cosmetics?
Dead Sea cosmetics aren’t just good for your face, but they’re also good for your whole body! No matter if you’re trying to care for your hair, face, or the rest of your body, there’s a product made from the Dead Sea that should help you. Even those with common skin problems such as ezcema, acne, dermatitis, psoriasis and skin rash can get the relief they deserve: black mud and other Dead Sea products can soothe the itchiness and irritation you go through everyday.
Don’t be fooled by imitation from supposed “competitors”! You really do “get what you pay for” when it comes to Dead Sea cosmetics. They can be expensive, but plenty of sites, such as AHAVA Cosmetics and Obey Your Body offer great prices for these beneficial skin care products. Like with most retailers, if you are unsatisfied with your purchase, you can generally return items.
One last note: Guys: skincare is important for you too! While most that buy Dead Sea cosmetics are women, you too can benefit from the Dead Sea’s restorative and healing properties! Taking good care of your skin should be something that both men and women are interested in - good skin doesn’t know gender!
OK, that’s enough talking about that. If you’re interested, you’ll definitely enjoy what I’m giving away: $100 worth of Dead Sea Cosmetics from Obey Your Body. It’ll be a $100 gift certificate, because with so many lovely products, I’m not sure what you ladies (and supportive gents) want!
To enter the contest, you will need to enter your name and email address into the boxes below. If you are selected to be the winner (it’s one of those “random draw” deals, mmkay?), then you’ll be contacted with some more information.
One rule my accountant is jabbing me about repeatedly: the winner will have to send me some identifying information (such as their SSN or tax-id) so our company (Reversia Media Productions, Inc.) can report the income. Unfortunately, we’re pretty big sticklers about this point. If that’s a problem, I’m afraid this contest isn’t going to be your cup of tea. It’s not quite the scale of Oprah’s great car giveaway, but the IRS doesn’t make silly distinctions like that.
Age is the other stickler he’s on about: you must be 18 years of age or older. Why? Collecting personal information for anyone under this age is a really big hassle. I apologize to all the curvy teens out there - if you’re miffed enough, we may have a giveaway for just teens in the future. I would definitely need some feedback on this point, though.
So, all that rule-ese out of the way, it’s time for the contest! The contest will run from today until October 30th, 2006. The winner will be announced November 2nd, 2006. Trust us: we’ll be spending the whole day before we announce the contest to randomly pick that winner. As far as I can see, virtually everyone is able to enter the contest. You just have to be over 18 and have a Tax Identification Number (if you’re a U.S person, this is most likely your SSN. If you have an EIN floating around, you can use that too.)
It’s hard to start a discussion on makeup without covering the skincare behind it. After all, makeup is only going to be as good as the skin underneath. We pay so much for makeup, so it’s in our best interest to stay informed about maintaining your unique canvas.
There’s so many products out there, it’s hard to actually believe that we can narrow ourselves to a small list for our shelves. I love products that smell nice and do what they’re supposed to as well. For our roadmap to maintanence bliss, I’ve pulled together a clever, if not totally cliche way of remember where to begin: F.A.C.E:
Facial Cleanser. Whether you’re a bar and soap kinda gal or you like to really get into the good stuff, you gotta find what works for your face. You should be washing your face when you get up in the morning, and when you go to bed. This said, I do like to clean my face during the day, usually after I’ve finished having my lunch. Good cleanser: St. Ives Apricot Radiance Deep-Cleaning Cream Cleanser
Astringent. Some call it toner, some call it astringent. Either way, you really need astringent in order to return your skin’s natural acidity after getting it clean. I really like astringent, and tend to use it as much as possible. Good Astringent: Neutrogena Alcohol-Free Toner
Cream. My personal goal to better face-maintenance is to get more liberal with applying moisturizers. My skin needs to be able to stay hydrated in order to look its best. I really like to have a moisturizer for the day, and a good night cream to work into my face before I sleep. Good choices for face creams: Pond’s Dry Skin Cream
Exfoliant. Out of all the words I’ve used today, I think exfoliant is the one that’s going to make you shiver. No, I don’t expect you all to run something jagged and icky over your faces to slough off dead skin. I do encourage everyone to use a good exfoliant to add the finishing touch to their face. The frequency of exfoliating should coincide with the severity of the exfoliant. For example, I honestly don’t use my St. Ives Apricot Scrub as much as I should; it’s too scratchy on my skin. However, that end-of-week exfoliating extravaganza? Bring it on! For simpler, gentler times, a soft exfoliator is best. Good facial exfoliants: Clinique Exfoliating Scrub
Taking care of that beautiful, unique canvas we’re all given is a good idea. Plastic surgery aside, it’s the only face we’ve got!
